Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injectable substances used in cosmetic procedures to restore volume, smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, and enhance facial contours. They are commonly used to rejuvenate and enhance areas of the face that have lost volume or show signs of aging.

Dermal Fillers Injection

Dermal fillers are composed of various substances, including hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres. Hyaluronic acid is the most commonly used filler material due to its biocompatibility and natural occurrence in the body.

Mechanism of Action

These fillers work by adding volume to the targeted area, filling in wrinkles, lines, and hollow areas. They can also stimulate collagen production, leading to improved skin elasticity and texture over time.

Treatment Areas

Dermal fillers can be used in different areas of the face, such as the cheeks, lips, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, tear troughs, and jawline. They are also effective for enhancing facial features like the lips or chin.

Procedure

Before the procedure, a topical or local anesthetic may be applied to minimize discomfort. The filler is then injected into the targeted area using a fine needle or cannula. The process is relatively quick, and results are usually visible immediately.

Results and Duration

The results of dermal filler treatments are typically immediate, with improvements in volume, smoothness, and contour. The duration of the effects varies depending on the type of filler used and the individual’s metabolism. Hyaluronic acid fillers generally last between 6 to 18 months, while other types may have longer-lasting effects.

Safety and Side Effects

Dermal fillers are generally considered safe when administered by a qualified professional. However, temporary side effects like redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site may occur. These side effects typically resolve within a few days.
